Waaree Energies Limited Groundbreaking for India’s Largest 10 GW Integrated Solar Facility in Nagpur

Waaree Energies Limited performed the groundbreaking ceremony for its new integrated solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Butibori, Nagpur, on March 14, 2026. This complex will have a 10 GW capacity each for ingots and wafers, marking it as India’s largest. The project involves an investment of approximately ₹6,200 crore, aiming to enhance domestic self-reliance and reduce import dependence in the critical upstream solar supply chain.

Milestone in Indian Solar Manufacturing

Waaree Energies Limited, a global clean energy transition company, reached a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for its forthcoming integrated solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility located at Butibori, Nagpur. The announcement confirms a strategic move toward energy security and enhanced domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Facility Capacity and Investment Details

The planned facility is set to house a combined capacity of 10 GW for solar ingots and 10 GW for wafers, establishing it as India’s largest integrated complex of its kind. The project spans 300 acres and is being developed with a substantial investment estimated at approximately ₹6,200 crore. The focus will be on producing high-purity solar ingots and wafers, which are the foundational components of the photovoltaic value chain.

By bolstering domestic capabilities in these upstream materials, Waaree aims to significantly decrease India’s reliance on imports, leading to greater supply chain stability and supporting the national goal of self-reliant clean energy manufacturing.

Economic and Strategic Impact

Once operational, the facility is projected to create over 8,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing positively to regional economic development, skill creation, and industrial growth within Maharashtra.

Speaking at the event, Hitesh Doshi, Chairman and Managing Director, emphasized that the project is a major step in strengthening India’s upstream ecosystem and contributing to the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He also noted that Nagpur’s strategic location makes it an ideal site for a project of this magnitude.

The initiative aligns with India’s trajectory toward becoming a global hub for renewable energy technologies as it progresses toward the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
