The Great Eastern Shipping Company Fleet Expansion with New Tanker Acquisition

The Great Eastern Shipping Company has strategically expanded its fleet by contracting to purchase a secondhand 49,420 dwt Medium Range Tanker. This 2014-built vessel is scheduled to join the fleet in the first quarter of FY27. The acquisition, which will be funded entirely through internal accruals, aligns with the company’s ongoing fleet modernization and growth strategy as it maintains near-full capacity utilization across its 40-vessel fleet.

Strengthening Market Presence

On April 1, 2026, The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited confirmed the signing of a contract to acquire a secondhand Medium Range Tanker. This vessel, boasting a capacity of approximately 49,420 dwt, was built in 2014. The addition of this tanker marks a proactive step in the company’s efforts to enhance its operational scale and efficiency.

Strategic Financial Planning

The company has confirmed that the financing for this purchase will be sourced entirely from internal accruals, demonstrating a strong cash position and disciplined capital allocation. This move is part of a broader expansion initiative, aimed at bolstering the company’s capabilities to meet global shipping demands. Currently, the company operates a diverse fleet of 40 vessels—consisting of 26 Tankers and 14 Dry Bulk Carriers—with an aggregate capacity of 3.20 million dwt and capacity utilization levels reaching nearly 100%.

Looking Ahead

In addition to the Medium Range Tanker, the company has also finalized a contract to purchase one secondhand Kamsarmax Dry Bulk Carrier. Both the new tanker and the Kamsarmax vessel are expected to be integrated into the company’s active fleet during Q1 FY27 (April–June 2026). These additions are expected to further solidify the company’s competitive standing in both the liquid and dry bulk shipping segments.
