The Great Eastern Shipping Contracts to Acquire Secondhand Kamsarmax Dry Bulk Carrier

The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited (GE Shipping) announced on March 4, 2026, that it has contracted to purchase a secondhand Kamsarmax Dry Bulk Carrier. The vessel, built in 2014 by a Japanese shipyard, has a capacity of approximately 81,094 dwt. This strategic acquisition, financed entirely through internal accruals, aims to expand the company’s fleet, which is expected to welcome the new addition by Q1 FY27.

Fleet Expansion through Vessel Acquisition

The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited confirmed on March 04, 2026, that it has entered into a contract to acquire a secondhand Kamsarmax Dry Bulk Carrier. The vessel in question is a 2014 Japanese-built ship, carrying an approximate deadweight tonnage (dwt) of 81,094 dwt. The strategic purpose of this move is the expansion of the company’s fleet.

The financing for this proposed acquisition will be managed entirely through the company’s internal accruals. The vessel is anticipated to integrate into GE Shipping’s operational fleet by the first quarter of the financial year FY27.

Current Fleet Strength and Utilization

As of the announcement date, GE Shipping’s owned fleet comprises a total of 41 vessels. This fleet is strategically segmented into:

  • 27 Tankers: Including 5 Crude Tankers, 17 Product Tankers, and 5 LPG Carriers.
  • 14 Dry Bulk Carriers: Comprising 2 Capesize, 9 Kamsarmax, 1 Ultramax, and 2 Supramax vessels.

The aggregate capacity of the current fleet stands at 3.25 million dwt, with the company reporting that its current capacity utilization is close to 100%.

Concurrent Divestment

In parallel activity, the company also announced that it has contracted to sell one of its vessels, the Very Large Gas Carrier named “Jag Vishnu”. This sale transaction is expected to be finalized during the fourth quarter of financial year FY26.
