Tata Power, in collaboration with the London School of Economics (LSE) and the International Growth Centre (IGC), has launched the Energy Insights & Innovation Lab (EIIL) in Mumbai. This initiative aims to leverage data, behavioral science, and AI to accelerate India’s clean energy transition. The EIIL will focus on improving electricity services, demand-side management, and grid resilience through applied pilots using smart meter and IoT data.
Strategic Research Initiative
Tata Power, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and the International Growth Centre (IGC) have launched the Energy Insights & Innovation Lab (EIIL) to support India’s clean energy transition. The lab was launched on December 19, 2025, at Tata Power’s headquarters in Mumbai.
Focus and Objectives
The Energy Insights & Innovation Lab will use research, data, and experimentation to improve the quality, reliability, and affordability of electricity services. The EIIL aims to address challenges in India’s power sector, including managing peak electricity demand and enabling renewable energy integration that is reliable, affordable, and aligned with India’s net-zero goals.
Partnership and Collaboration
The EIIL is a collaboration with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the International Growth Centre (IGC). The lab’s inauguration included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tata Power, LSE, and IGC to develop scalable solutions for the power sector using evidence-based approaches and global best practices.
Lab Capabilities
The Lab will leverage consumer behavioural science, data analytics, and energy systems modelling to test practical solutions. The focus includes using smart meter and IoT data to improve demand-side management and grid resilience.
