Star Health and Allied Insurance announced its strong performance in Karnataka, having settled over 4.8 lakh claims and disbursed over Rs.2,800 crore to customers between FY21 and FY25. This reinforces the company’s position as a trusted health insurance partner in the region.
Market Position
Star Health holds a market leadership position in retail health insurance within Karnataka, capturing a 31% market share. The total number of lives insured in Karnataka reached over 19 lakhs by the end of FY25.
State-Wise Contribution
In FY25 alone, Star Health settled over 1.13 lakh claims, amounting to more than Rs. 650 crore. Bengaluru accounted for the largest portion of these claims, totaling over Rs.440 crore. Other key cities like Mysuru (Rs.40 crore), Mangaluru (Rs.30 crore), Shivamogga and Hassan (Rs.21 crore each) also contributed significantly.
Types of Claims
During the five-year period from FY21 to FY25, the leading causes for claims included orthopaedics and trauma (close to Rs.440 crore), cardiology (over Rs.320 crore), COVID-19 (over Rs.290 crore), gastroenterology (over Rs.270 crore), and carcinoma (over Rs.260 crore). These categories accounted for over 1.7 lakh claims and over Rs.1,590 crore in settled claims.
Company Initiatives
Star Health Insurance offers wellness programs, free Tele-consultations, and Home Health Care (HHC) services in Karnataka. From April to August 2025, the company facilitated 2500 telemedicine and HHC consultations in the state.
