SJVN: Foundation Stone Laid for 200 MW Khavda Solar Power Project

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for SJVN’s 200 MW Solar Power Project (GUVNL Phase – XVII) at Khavda, Gujarat. The project, costing approximately ₹866.8 crore, aims to supply power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for 25 years. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 5,69,250 tonnes over its lifespan.

Khavda Solar Project Launched

SJVN’s 200 MW Khavda Solar Power Project (GUVNL Phase – XVII) has officially commenced with the laying of the foundation stone by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The project is located at Khavda, Gujarat, and signifies a major step towards India’s renewable energy goals. The launch was attended by key dignitaries and officials from both the government and SJVN.

Project Details and Impact

The project involves an estimated investment of ₹866.8 crore. It is expected to generate 504.92 million units of electricity in its first year of operation and a cumulative 11,620 million units over 25 years. The power generated will be supplied to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) at a tariff of ₹2.88 per unit. The project is slated for commissioning by December 31, 2026.

Environmental Benefits

The Khavda Solar Power Project is anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 5,69,250 tonnes over its 25-year lifespan. This will contribute significantly to India’s commitment to achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and Net Zero emissions by 2070. The project will also create employment opportunities in the Kachchh region of Gujarat.

SJVN has already commissioned fourteen projects with a total installed capacity of 2968 MW, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable power generation.
