SJVN Limited has announced the successful achievement of generating 1 Billion Units (BU) of energy from its massive 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project. This operational landmark was confirmed on March 20, 2026, marking a critical step in the company’s mission to supply clean and sustainable energy to the national grid.
Project Background and Development
The project is strategically located in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan and is being executed through SJVN’s wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL). The development falls under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme – Phase II, Tranche III, governed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The foundation stone was laid by the Hon’ble President of India on January 3, 2023, and the project achieved its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on December 24, 2025.
Energy Output and Environmental Impact
The facility is projected to generate approximately 2,454.55 million units (MU) of electricity in its first year of operation and an estimated cumulative total of 56 billion units over its 25-year operational life. The electricity will be supplied competitively at a fixed tariff of ₹2.57 per unit to the states of Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. Environmentally, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 2.78 million tonnes.
