SBI Life Insurance Announces Leadership Changes in Business Strategy and Operations

SBI Life Insurance has announced a strategic shift in its leadership team, effective April 6, 2026. Mr. Santosh Chacko has been appointed as the new President – Business Strategy. Simultaneously, Mr. Abhijit Gulanikar will transition to lead Operations & Information Technology, effective June 1, 2026, following the upcoming superannuation of the current head, Mr. Durgadas G. These appointments are part of the company’s ongoing management succession planning.

Strengthening the Leadership Team

As part of its organizational development, SBI Life Insurance has appointed Mr. Santosh Chacko as the new President – Business Strategy, effective April 6, 2026. Mr. Chacko brings over 28 years of professional experience to the role. Prior to this appointment, he successfully led the company’s East Zone as Zonal Director and has previously held leadership positions in institutional alliances and regional management. His background includes a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and an Executive Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Strategic Transition in Operations and IT

The company also announced a transition in its Operations and Information Technology division. Mr. Abhijit Gulanikar, who currently serves as the President – Business Strategy, will take over as President – Operations & Information Technology effective June 1, 2026. He has been designated to this new role starting April 6, 2026, to ensure a smooth transition period.

Mr. Gulanikar is a seasoned professional with 30 years of experience. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) and a Cost and Management Accountant (CMA), holding a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He replaces the outgoing head, Mr. Durgadas G., who is set to retire on May 31, 2026.
