The 8,200 square meter plant, established with Marelli, focuses exclusively on cutting-edge exterior lighting systems. This facility is a key strategic investment, capable of producing single-piece, edge-to-edge lighting parts and enabling crucial localization milestones for the Indian automotive industry.
Motherson Launches New Advanced Manufacturing Unit
On February 23, 2026, Samvardhana Motherson International Limited (SAMIL) inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art automotive lighting manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, India. This facility operates under the strategic joint venture, Marelli Motherson Automotive Lighting India Private Limited (MMLI), in which SAMIL holds a 50% equity stake.
Facility Capabilities and Industry Milestones
The advanced plant spans 8,200 square meters and is equipped with the latest technologies to meet the rising demand for premium lighting solutions. The facility marks several milestones for the Indian industry, including:
- Capability to manufacture edge-to-edge single-piece long lighting parts.
- Utilization of high-tonnage multi-colour moulding machines (2,000T to 2,700T).
- Localizing the production of the slimmest headlamp module in the country.
- Enabling the first single-piece, end-to-end Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and Rear Combination Lamps (RCL) in India.
Furthermore, the plant underscores a commitment to sustainability, featuring rooftop solar power, with plans to source open-access green power.
