Powergrid Wins Bid for Tumkur-II Transmission Project

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has been named the successful bidder for the Tumkur-II transmission project. The company will establish critical infrastructure to support the integration of an additional 2.7 GW of renewable energy. The project is being executed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis, marking another significant milestone for the firm in expanding India’s inter-state power transmission capabilities.

Expanding Renewable Energy Infrastructure

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has successfully secured the bid for the Transmission System Strengthening at Tumkur-II project. This initiative is strategically designed to facilitate the integration of 2.7 GW of additional renewable energy potential into the national grid. The company received the formal Letter of Intent (LoI) on April 1, 2026, following a successful competitive bidding process.

Project Scope and Implementation

The project will be executed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model. The technical scope includes the development of a 400 kV D/c Transmission Line that will traverse the state of Karnataka. Additionally, the project encompasses essential augmentation works, specifically the installation of ICTs and Line Bays at the Tumkur-II Pooling Station. These upgrades are vital to ensuring the stability and efficiency of power evacuation from upcoming renewable energy sources in the region.
