Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has assumed operational control of Well Mori-5, following an incident at the site located in Irusumanda Village, Malkipuram Mandal. The company, along with a Crisis Management Team (CMT), is focusing on implementing a comprehensive blowout control plan. Efforts include creating a temporary canal for firewater pumps and continuously monitoring environmental impact within a 600-metre radius. A gradual reduction in flame intensity has been observed.
Operational Control Assumed
The senior management of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), along with the Director (Technology & Field Services) and Crisis Management Team (CMT) experts, has taken operational control of Well Mori-5. The well is located at Irusumanda Village, Malkipuram Mandal, following the incident at the site. The announcement was made on January 6, 2026.
Ongoing Mitigation Efforts
Excavation work is complete for creating a temporary canal sourcing water from a nearby irrigation source. This will facilitate the deployment of high-capacity firewater pumps. The fire pumps have reached the wellsite, and placement activities are in progress. A comprehensive blowout control plan has been finalised.
Flame Intensity Reduction
A gradual reduction in the flame intensity and size is being witnessed. The team has also been able to redirect the flame to a vertical direction.
Environmental Monitoring
Air quality, noise levels, and nearby water bodies are being continuously monitored to minimise environmental impact within a 600-metre radius. ONGC is maintaining coordination with all stakeholders, including district and police administrations, local authorities, and the media, to ensure transparency and an effective response. Operations are being carried out with the highest standards of safety and environmental care.
