Blowout Control Advances
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is making headway in controlling the blowout at Well Mori#5, managed by PEC contractor M/s Deep Industries. Significant progress has been achieved, as detailed in a press release on January 7, 2026.
Operational Improvements
The Crisis Management Team reports that operations are aligned with the approved blowout control plan. Key improvements include significantly reduced fire intensity, noise levels, and ambient heat in the vicinity of the well. An approach road has been completed from the rear end of the wellsite to facilitate debris clearance, and necessary logistics have been mobilised for systematic debris removal.
Safety Measures
A water blanket is now in place at the wellsite to support ongoing debris removal near the wellhead and to facilitate subsequent capping operations, as per the planned actions.
Community Update
Given the progress achieved and the low likelihood of further escalation, the district administration has advised residents in the surrounding areas to resume their normal activities.
Commitment to Safety
The safety of the community and protection of the environment remain ONGC’s highest priorities. All actions are being carried out in compliance with regulatory requirements and established industry best practices.
