NLC India Limited Signs MoU with NALCO for Thermal and Renewable Energy Collaboration

NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a ‘Navratna’ CPSE under the Ministry of Coal, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Aluminium Company (NALCO), under the Ministry of Mines. The agreement focuses on strengthening collaboration for the development of thermal and renewable energy projects. A key element includes a proposed 1200 MW Thermal Captive Power Project to meet NALCO’s long-term energy needs reliably and cost-effectively. The partnership may lead to a Joint Venture Company.

Strategic Inter-CPSE Energy Collaboration

NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Central Public Sector Enterprise operating under the Ministry of Coal, formalized a significant collaboration with National Aluminium Company (NALCO), which operates under the Ministry of Mines. This partnership, formalized via a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dated 14 February 2026, aims to bolster joint efforts in developing both thermal and renewable energy solutions.

Focus on Power Security for NALCO

The MoU establishes a structured framework designed to cooperate on several large-scale energy initiatives. Central to this agreement is the support for a proposed 1200 MW Thermal Captive Power Project, alongside broader renewable energy development. The primary objective is ensuring NALCO’s captive and long-term power requirements are met in a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable manner.

Exploration of Long-Term Arrangements

The collaboration extends beyond immediate power generation. It facilitates the exploration of long-term power tie-ups, including captive and group captive arrangements. Furthermore, the partners will investigate long-term coal supply arrangements to guarantee energy and fuel security for the identified projects. The agreement also contemplates future joint development opportunities, including the potential formation of a Joint Venture Company.

Leadership Endorsement

The signing ceremony was attended by key leadership figures from both PSUs. NLCIL was represented by CMD Shri. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli and other directors, while NALCO was represented by Director (Projects & Technical) Shri Jagdish Arora. This partnership underscores the spirit of inter-CPSE collaboration, aimed at optimizing national resources and strengthening India’s overall energy security framework.
