NLC India Pachwara South Open Cast Project Commences Mining Operations

NLC India has announced the commencement of initial mining operations at the Pachwara South Open Cast Project, effective December 19, 2025. This project aims to meet the fuel requirements of the 3 X 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant. The coal block has extractable coal reserves of 264.84 million tonnes and a normative capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum.

Mining Operations Begin at Pachwara South

NLC India has started initial mining operations at the Pachwara South Open Cast Project on December 19th, 2025. This project is strategically important for supplying fuel to the 3 X 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant.

Project Details

The Pachwara South Coal Block, located in the Dumka District of Jharkhand, was allotted to the company to meet the fuel requirements of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant. The coal block has extractable coal reserves of 264.84 million tonnes. The mine has a normative capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum, with an average coal grade of G10.

The 3 X 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant is being established by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a Joint Venture Company of NLC India Limited and U.P. Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited with equity shareholding in the ratio of 51:49 respectively.
