Max Healthcare Strategic Expansion into Odisha with Kalinga Hospital Acquisition

Max Healthcare has announced a strategic foray into Bhubaneswar, Odisha, through the acquisition of a controlling 58.39% stake in Kalinga Hospital Ltd. for an equity value of ₹300 crore. This 250-bed NABH-accredited facility will significantly strengthen the company’s presence in Eastern India. Additionally, the Board has approved a ₹100 crore investment for infrastructure upgrades and secured ₹300 crore in external commercial borrowings to finance the expansion.

Strategic Market Entry

Max Healthcare is expanding its geographical footprint by acquiring a controlling stake in the 250-bed Kalinga Hospital in Bhubaneswar. This well-established hospital, operational since 1997, is situated on a 10-acre campus with significant brownfield potential, including space for future expansion to over 1,000 beds. The acquisition is expected to be completed within 4 to 6 weeks.

Investment and Infrastructure Upgrades

To ensure high standards of care, Max Healthcare has committed ₹100 crore toward the renovation, construction, and technological upgrading of the existing facility. Furthermore, the company will provide a corporate guarantee of $5 million to facilitate the refinancing of existing debt for the hospital’s current promoter. These steps are designed to integrate the facility seamlessly into the company’s high-performance network.

Financial and Operational Outlook

The company has secured ₹300 crore in senior secured term loans from Standard Chartered Bank to finance this acquisition. With the hospital already operating at high standards, this move allows Max Healthcare to tap into a rapidly growing market in Eastern India. In a related administrative update, the Board also approved the re-appointment of Mr. Narayan K. Seshadri as a Non-Executive and Non-Independent Director for a second term of three years, effective from May 16, 2026.
