Mahindra Lifespaces Mitsubishi Electric Expands Manufacturing at Origins, Chennai

Mitsubishi Electric India is expanding its manufacturing footprint at Origins by Mahindra in Chennai with a ₹2,100 crore investment. The facility will manufacture air conditioners and compressors and is expected to boost local manufacturing and supply chains. This expansion reinforces Tamil Nadu’s position as a key manufacturing hub and Mitsubishi Electric’s long-term commitment to the Indian market, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Mitsubishi Electric’s Expansion in Chennai

Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai Limited (MIPCL), a joint venture between Mahindra World City Developers Limited and Sumitomo Corporation, has reached a milestone with Mitsubishi Electric India’s expansion at Origins by Mahindra in Chennai. The new air conditioner and compressor manufacturing facility represents a ₹2,100 crore investment and is spread across 52 acres within the industrial cluster.

Boosting Local Manufacturing

The expansion aims to increase Mitsubishi Electric India’s manufacturing presence and support the growth of a strong regional supplier ecosystem. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 indoor and outdoor room air conditioners and 650,000 compressors.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin stated that Chennai continues to be a manufacturing backbone for Tamil Nadu, emphasizing the state’s commitment to enabling business growth. Atsushi Takase, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Electric India, highlighted India’s rapid growth in demand for energy-efficient air conditioning solutions. Vikram Goel of Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited emphasized the strength of their integrated industrial cluster model in supporting long-term industrial growth.

Origins by Mahindra, Chennai, is strategically located on NH16, offering proximity to key ports and industrial corridors, facilitating efficient logistics and supply chain operations. This expansion reinforces Mahindra Lifespaces’ commitment to enabling sustainable industrial development in India.
