Mahanagar Gas Addresses CNG Supply Interruption in Mumbai

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) addresses a recent CNG supply interruption in Mumbai due to a third-party damaging a GAIL pipeline. MGL prioritized gas supply to domestic and small commercial consumers, maintaining 100% supply. Large industrial customers were asked to curb consumption, and 60% of CNG stations remained operational during the disruption. Gas supply has been fully restored by the afternoon of November 18, 2025.

CNG Supply Interruption Details

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) experienced a disruption in CNG supply in Mumbai after a GAIL (India) Limited pipeline was damaged by a third party. The affected pipeline is a feeder for MGL’s City Gate Station (CGS) at Wadala, causing an interruption in gas supply to that CGS.

Response and Restoration Efforts

MGL mitigated the impact by leveraging its interconnected pipeline network, using other CGS locations (Mahape, Ambernath, Taloja, Usarghar, and Savaroli) to restore gas supply to the maximum extent possible. MGL maintained 100% supply to domestic household consumers and small to medium commercial establishments. Large industrial customers were asked to limit their consumption unless critical.

CNG Station Operations

To ensure adequate CNG availability, MGL prioritized keeping large CNG stations operational. Approximately 60% of CNG stations, including those at State Transport Undertakings, remained operational throughout the disruption.

Supply Restoration

Gas supply from GAIL has been fully restored, and all MGL operations returned to normal by the afternoon of November 18, 2025.
