Larsen & Toubro’s Transportation Infrastructure business vertical has won a significant order to construct a Cable-Stayed Bridge over the Muri Ganga River in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, as announced on January 13, 2026.
Project Details and Scope
The project encompasses the construction of a 3.2 km long, 2+2 lane Extradosed Cable-Stayed Bridge, featuring a maximum span of 177m. The project also includes 0.9 km of approach road on the Kakdwip side and 0.65 km on the Sagar Island side.
Technological Integration
The bridge will integrate Advanced Traffic Management Systems, Bridge Health Monitoring System, Architectural Bridge Lighting, and Hybrid Street Lighting, along with essential road furniture.
Community Impact
The new bridge ensures direct, all-weather connectivity to Sagar Island, which currently relies on ferry services frequently disrupted by adverse weather. This development aims to improve mobility, healthcare accessibility, and boost economic prospects for over two lakh residents. The bridge will also improve pilgrimage to the annual Ganga Sagar Mela.
