Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical has secured a batch of Major EPC orders for establishing electricity grid systems both in India and internationally. The domestic segment involves constructing two 220 kV Gas Insulated Substations in West Bengal. International wins include turnkey orders from Middle Eastern utilities for five substations and over 250 KM of transmission lines, some reaching up to 500 kV.
L&T Secures Significant Power Transmission Orders
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on February 25, 2026, that its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical has been awarded a series of EPC orders for crucial electricity grid system elements in India and overseas markets.
Indian Projects: Grid Modernization in West Bengal
In India, the PT&D vertical received an order for the design, supply, and construction of two 220 kV Gas Insulated Substations. These facilities are located in the Durgapur-Raniganj-Asansol industrial belt of West Bengal. The scope includes associated transmission line segments utilizing advanced conductors and multi-circuit towers. These modernizations are designed to enhance voltage stability and improve the reliability of power networks serving key industrial and infrastructure projects in the region.
International Expansion in the Middle East
Internationally, L&T has won contracts from key utilities in the Middle East, spread across three different countries. These orders are for the turnkey construction of five substations and the laying of over 250 KM of transmission lines. The voltage levels for these projects go up to 500 kV. Notably, one of the international projects also mandates the supply and installation of a 400 kV underground cable system.
Order Classification and Customer Confidence
These recent contracts fall under L&T’s Major order classification, signifying a contract value between ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 Cr, as per the company’s internal metrics.
L&T noted that these successful bids reflect the growing recognition that grid investments are high-stake, high-tech priority areas driven by surging energy demand and security initiatives. The orders underscore the customer trust in L&T for the safe, sustainable, and timely creation of essential grid backbones.
