Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ACWA Power for the Renewables & Grid scope of the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia. The project, powered by solar and wind, aims to establish a collaborative framework for designing and achieving performance targets for renewable energy integration. This partnership marks a significant step in supporting the Kingdom’s clean energy goals and L&T’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Strategic Collaboration for Green Energy
Larsen & Toubro’s Renewables (RENU) vertical has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ACWA Power. This agreement is centered around the Renewables & Grid aspects of the Yanbu Green Ammonia Project, located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, marking a significant step in the expansion of green energy infrastructure.
Project Overview: Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub
The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub is designed as a fully integrated facility, relying entirely on renewable electricity generation from solar and wind sources. The project’s scope includes multiple facilities, incorporating Solar PV, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage System plants, along with their associated substations and transmission lines. The goal is to create a self-sufficient and sustainable energy ecosystem.
Objectives of the MOU
The primary objective of the MOU is to create a collaborative framework for optimal design and to achieve the desired performance targets for the Renewables & Grid components. As part of the agreement, Larsen & Toubro has committed to potentially entering an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract, contingent on the acceptance of the final proposal.
Statements from Leadership
Marco Arcelli, Chief Executive Officer at ACWA Power, stated that the project demonstrates their commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s leadership role in the global energy transition through green ammonia development and export.
T Madhava Das, Member of the Board and Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at Larsen & Toubro, highlighted Saudi Arabia’s role as a key leader in clean energy supply and industrial decarbonization. He also noted the project’s contribution to regional and international integration of clean energy, particularly along the India – Middle East – Europe economic corridor.
