JSW Steel announced its consolidated Crude Steel production for January 2026 reached 24.75 Lakh Tonnes, marking a 2% year-over-year (YoY) decline. Indian operations were stable, while production at JSW Steel USA – Ohio fell sharply by 74% due to scheduled caster upgrades in December 2025/January 2026. The company remains focused on its long-term sustainability and capacity expansion goals.
January 2026 Production Snapshot
JSW Steel reported its consolidated Crude Steel production for the month of January 2026 stood at 24.75 Lakh Tonnes. This figure reflects a marginal overall decrease of 2% compared to the 25.18 Lakh Tonnes produced in January 2025.
Operational Highlights and Interruptions
Crude Steel production at the Indian operations level was marginally higher YoY, reaching 24.58 Lakh Tonnes, compared to 24.52 Lakh Tonnes in January 2025. However, capacity utilization in India was impacted because Blast Furnace 3 (BF3) at Vijayanagar has been under a shutdown for capacity upgradation since September 2025, with recommissioning expected by the end of Q4 FY26. Capacity utilization for Indian operations was approximately 93% (excluding BF3 capacity) and 85% (including BF3 capacity).
In contrast, production at the USA Ohio operations was substantially lower at 0.17 Lakh Tonnes, a sharp drop of 74% from 0.66 Lakh Tonnes in the previous year. This decrease was attributed to a scheduled outage for caster upgrades that ran from 15th December 2025 to 11th January 2026.
Production Break-up (Lakh Tonnes)
The detailed production comparison is as follows:
- Indian Operations: 24.58 (Jan 2026) vs. 24.52* (Jan 2025)
- JSW Steel USA – Ohio: 0.17 (Jan 2026) vs. 0.66 (Jan 2025)
- Consolidated Production: 24.75 (Jan 2026) vs. 25.18 (Jan 2025)
Note: The January 2025 figure included 2.11 Lakh tonnes from trial run production.
