JSW Energy has secured a deal for turbine generators for its 1,600 MW Salboni plant. The supply contract is with Toshiba JSW Power Systems. The project aims to enhance energy security and grid stability. The turbine-generator package will align with the project’s construction timeline. JSW Energy targets 30 GW generation capacity by FY2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
Salboni Plant Supply Secured
JSW Energy’s subsidiary, JSW Thermal Energy Limited, has entered into a supply contract with Toshiba JSW Power Systems for two steam turbine generators, each with 800 MW capacity, for its Salboni Thermal Project in West Bengal. The announcement was made on January 15, 2026.
Strategic Importance
Sourcing equipment through Toshiba JSW Power Systems is aimed at enhancing supply-chain certainty and improving coordination during project execution, mitigating industry-related shortages.
Expansion and Future Outlook
JSW Energy currently operates 5,658 MW of thermal generation capacity. With the addition of 1,600 MW under construction at Salboni, and the option to add 1,800 MW at KSK Mahanadi, the company’s total thermal capacity is projected to reach 9,058 MW. This represents approximately 30% of JSW Energy’s total locked-in capacity of 30.5 GW.
Management Commentary
According to Mr. Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, the turbine generator supply contract with Toshiba JSW is a strategic step in strengthening supply-chain control and ensuring execution certainty for the Salboni Thermal Project.
Commitment to Energy Transition
The Salboni Power Project reinforces JSW’s commitment to supporting India’s energy security by adding reliable baseload capacity. JSW Energy aims for 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by FY2030, targeting carbon neutrality by 2050.
