Jindal Steel is set to significantly expand its structural steel manufacturing capabilities at its Raigarh facility. The expansion will double the existing structural steel capacity from 1.2 MTPA to 2.4 MTPA by mid-2028. This move will bolster the availability of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel sections in India, solidifying Jindal Steel’s position in the market.
Raigarh Expansion Plans
Jindal Steel has announced a major expansion of its structural steel manufacturing capabilities at its Raigarh facility. According to the official release on December 29, 2025, the company aims to double its current capacity to meet rising demand.
Doubling Steel Capacity
The expansion project will increase the structural steel capacity from 1.2 MTPA to 2.4 MTPA. The company anticipates completion by mid-2028. This enhancement will significantly boost the domestic supply of both heavy and ultra-heavy sections.
New Manufacturing Capabilities
The expanded facility will have the capability to manufacture India’s largest parallel flange sections, with depths reaching up to 1,100 mm and weights up to 1,500 kg per metre.
Product Range and Impact
The expansion will allow for an expanded product range, supporting key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, refinery, and high-rise construction. This will reduce India’s dependence on imported heavy sections.
Expansion Details
Jindal Steel will commission a new, dedicated structural steel mill. This will be alongside advanced upstream and downstream technology upgrades. The company currently manufactures parallel flange sections ranging from 100 mm to 900 mm, with sectional weights of up to 333 kg per metre. Following the expansion, production capability will reach ultra-heavy sections reaching 1,100 mm depth and 1,500 kg per metre.
