Jindal Stainless (JSL) and Oyster Renewable Energy announced the part commissioning of a 315.6 MW solar-wind hybrid renewable energy project in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The project represents an investment of over ₹2,000 crore, with JSL committing ₹132 crore. This initiative is crucial for JSL’s transition towards a cleaner energy mix, expected to abate approximately 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Major Renewable Milestone Achieved
On March 27, 2026, Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL), India’s leading stainless steel manufacturer, and Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd announced a significant milestone: the part commissioning of their joint 315.6 MW solar-wind hybrid renewable energy project. This development marks a major step in the industrial sector’s adoption of clean energy.
The project, located across Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, has a total investment exceeding ₹2,000 crore, with Jindal Stainless committing ₹132 crore. The generation capacity is split, with approximately 216 MW in Madhya Pradesh and an additional 99 MW in Gujarat. The commissioning is being executed in phases, starting with the Madhya Pradesh facility.
Technological Integration for Stability
The hybrid design incorporates bifacial solar modules with tracker systems, integrated alongside advanced Suzlon 3.15 MW wind turbines. This co-located configuration aims to create a more balanced and stable renewable generation profile, ensuring better power availability for industrial consumption.
Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless Limited, emphasized that this partnership is vital for strengthening the company’s clean energy portfolio and reducing the carbon intensity of operations, accelerating industrial decarbonisation across India.
Projected Environmental Impact and Strategy
Once fully operational, the project is anticipated to enable Jindal Stainless to abate around 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of carbon emissions per year. Siddharth Bhatia, MD & CEO of Oyster Renewable Energy, highlighted that the project reduces carbon emissions by approximately 6.5 lakh tonnes per year through a stable, cost-efficient energy delivery system.
Jindal Stainless, which reported an annual turnover of INR 40,182 crore (USD 4.75 billion) in FY25, is focused on sustainability. The company relies on scrap usage in its electric arc furnaces, which inherently leads to lower greenhouse gas emissions and supports recyclability.
