InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) Board Approves Appointment of William Walsh as New CEO

The Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) has approved the appointment of Mr. William Walsh as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective pending security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA). Mr. Walsh, currently Director General of IATA and former CEO of IAG and British Airways, is expected to join the airline no later than August 3, 2026. On March 31, 2026, the Board of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) formally approved the appointment of Mr. William Walsh as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. This appointment is contingent upon receiving the requisite security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

Mr. Walsh, popularly known as Willie, is expected to conclude his tenure as Director General of IATA on July 31, 2026, and is anticipated to officially join IndiGo no later than August 3, 2026.

Profile of Incoming CEO

Mr. Walsh brings a formidable track record to IndiGo, widely regarded as one of modern aviation’s most respected leaders. His distinguished career highlights include serving as CEO of British Airways (2005-2011), CEO of IAG (International Airlines Group) (2011-2020), and CEO of Aer Lingus prior to his current role at IATA.

Mr. Vikram Singh Mehta, IndiGo’s Chairman, expressed confidence in Mr. Walsh’s ability to lead the airline for continued growth in the competitive international aviation environment.
