InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) Board Approves Appointment of William Walsh as Chief Executive Officer

The Board of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) has approved the appointment of Mr. William Walsh as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective upon receiving security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA). Mr. Walsh, currently Director General of IATA and former CEO of British Airways and IAG, is expected to join IndiGo no later than August 3, 2026. His extensive global experience is intended to guide the airline through its next phase of transformation and growth.

IndiGo Names New Chief Executive Officer

On March 31, 2026, the Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) formally approved the appointment of Mr. William Walsh as the Chief Executive Officer of the Company. This appointment is contingent upon the successful receipt of security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

The board meeting, which commenced at 1055 hours (IST) and concluded at 1515 hours (IST), finalized the selection of Mr. Walsh. His tenure at IATA is set to conclude on July 31, 2026, with an expected joining date at IndiGo no later than August 3, 2026.

A Leader in Global Aviation

Mr. Walsh, popularly known as Willie, brings a distinguished career profile to IndiGo. He is currently serving as the Director General of IATA (International Air Transport Association). His prior executive roles include CEO of British Airways and CEO of IAG (International Airlines Group), which encompasses major carriers like Aer Lingus, Iberia, Level, and Vueling.

Mr. Vikram Singh Mehta, IndiGo’s Chairman, welcomed the appointment, stating that Mr. Walsh is an “exceptional global aviation leader with a stellar track record.” Similarly, Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director, noted that Mr. Walsh’s combination of global perspective and operational expertise makes him “exceptionally suited to lead IndiGo at this pivotal cusp of growth.”

As CEO, Mr. Walsh will be responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of IndiGo. His focus areas will include enhancing operational performance, advancing the company’s network and commercial strategy, and strengthening the customer experience. He expressed excitement about partnering with colleagues to build a culture of excellence, innovation, collaboration and sustainable value.
