HCLTech, a global technology company, announced the deepening of its strategic partnership with the University of Western Australia (UWA). The collaboration aims to shape next-generation talent through joint initiatives focused on future-ready leadership and digital capabilities.

The announcement was made during the Capability Summit 2026, held at the Shoolinganallur campus in Chennai, and was attended by senior leaders from both the company and the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Focus on Sustainable Competitive Advantage

The summit theme, “From Complexity to Capability – A Leadership Imperative,” underscored the importance of sustainable competitive advantage in a rapidly changing world. The consensus was that long-term success depends not only on technology adoption but also on building scalable, resilient talent and leadership architectures.

Key attendees included Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Government of Tamil Nadu (virtual address), Dr Ian Martinus, Investment and Trade Commissioner for India–Gulf, West and Trade Western Australia, Professor Amit Chakma, Vice-Chancellor of UWA, Srimathi Shivashankar, Corporate Vice President, and Swapan Johri, President, Growth Markets at HCLTech.

Joint Objectives and Future Outlook

The collaboration centers on bringing industry and academia together to advance future-ready leadership and digital capabilities through joint dialogue, research, and education. This is further bolstered by UWA’s expanding presence in India, including its forthcoming Chennai campus.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan stated that the future requires a fundamental rethink of talent development and education, emphasizing that technology reshapes work in healthcare, government, and society at large, necessitating unbiased, accurate, and verifiable data.

Professor Amit Chakma, Vice-Chancellor of UWA, highlighted that long-term success requires adapting leadership systems to be agile, globally connected, and innovation-driven. He noted that this partnership with HCLTech prepares individuals and institutions for complexity, not just change.

Srimathi Shivashankar stated that sustainable advantage is built through vision and intentional investment, noting that talent models evolve, and learnability must be embedded. She emphasized that the collaboration reflects HCLTech’s commitment to building future-ready leadership through industry-academia partnerships.

Swapan Johri added that as AI reshapes industries, the true differentiator will be the leadership and talent architectures built to leverage it effectively, reinforcing the belief that capability must be designed intentionally to create lasting impact.
