Godawari Power & Ispat (GPIL) has secured formal approval for enhancing the operational capacity of two key divisions at its Siltara facility. The Sponge Iron Division (SID) capacity has been increased from 594,000 MTPA to 650,000 MTPA. Concurrently, the HB Wire Division capacity has been approved for an increase from 100,000 MTPA to 115,000 MTPA. The company confirmed that no additional capital investment is required to implement these enhanced capacities immediately.
Regulatory Approval Secured for Production Increase
Godawari Power & Ispat Limited (GPIL) has successfully obtained necessary regulatory clearance for a significant capacity upgrade across two of its core manufacturing segments located at the Siltara Industrial Area in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This development was confirmed via a formal communication dated March 01, 2026.
Key Capacity Enhancements
The primary component of this expansion involves the Sponge Iron Division (SID). The approved ‘Consent to Operate’ raises the capacity from the previous 594,000 Metric Tons per annum (MTPA) to a new maximum of 650,000 MTPA. In parallel, the HB Wire Division will also see an increase in operational ceiling, moving from 100,000 MTPA to 115,000 MTPA.
Operational Readiness
A crucial aspect of this approval is the immediate commencement feasibility. GPIL has stated clearly that operating both the Sponge Iron Division and the HB Wire Division at these enhanced throughputs—650,000 MTPA and 115,000 MTPA, respectively—requires no modification nor any additional investments. Therefore, the company can operate at the higher capacity with immediate effect.
