GAIL (India) Limited announced the Board’s approval for the setting up of a new 178.2 MW Greenfield Wind Power Project located in Maharashtra. The total investment required for this expansion is substantial, pegged at INR 1,736.25 Crores, to be financed through a mix of Debt and Equity. This strategic move aligns with the company’s goal for business growth in the renewable energy sector, with the project slated for completion within 24 months of the LSTK contract award.

Strategic Expansion into Renewable Energy

GAIL (India) Limited has received approval from its Board of Directors to undertake a significant greenfield initiative focused on renewable energy generation. The project involves the establishment of a new Wind Power Project in Maharashtra with a total capacity addition of 178.2 MW.

This proposed capacity addition marks a substantial step up from the company’s existing renewable capacity, which currently stands at 117.95 MW, which is currently utilized at Full Capacity.

Financial and Execution Details

The Board sanctioned the execution of this venture, which carries a substantial capital requirement. The estimated Investment required for the project is INR 1,736.25 Crores.

The funding structure for this major outlay will be managed through a combination of Debt and Equity.

The company has outlined an aggressive timeline for project completion. The Period within which the proposed capacity is to be added is set at 24 months from award of LSTK contract.

Rationale for Growth

The primary justification for undertaking this project is rooted in driving the Company’s business growth trajectory, specifically within the clean energy segment, further aligning GAIL’s portfolio with evolving national energy requirements.
