Coforge Inaugurates Data & AI Lab in IIT (BHU), Varanasi

The lab, equipped with 32 high-end Apple desktops and Azure cloud access, will support research in areas like cybersecurity, assistive reading, and sustainable agriculture. This initiative underscores Coforge’s commitment to building a sustainable model for industry-academia collaboration and leveraging AI for societal impact.

New Data & AI Lab Launch

Coforge Limited has announced the inauguration of its new Data & AI Lab at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) in Varanasi. The launch took place on October 28, 2025, and aims to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) for large-scale social impact. This initiative is part of Coforge’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment.

Lab Features and Objectives

The lab is located in the I-DAPT building on the IIT (BHU) campus and spans 980 sq. ft. It is equipped with 32 high-end Apple desktops, Azure cloud access, and a video conferencing facility. The lab also features curated learning modules via Percipio. The primary objective is to create an inclusive, innovation-led ecosystem where students can apply their knowledge to solve real-world challenges.

Research Projects

The lab will support four research projects:

  • AI-assisted vulnerability detection to strengthen cybersecurity
  • AI-powered assistive reading system for the visually impaired
  • IoT and AI-based soil health monitoring system for sustainable agriculture
  • Cognitive research initiative to enhance mathematical abilities of schoolchildren in Varanasi through brainwave-based interventions

Industry and Academia Collaboration

The Coforge Data & AI Lab aims to serve as a living collaboration model, bridging the gap between academic rigor and industry expertise. It will contribute to research publications, open-source development, and skill-building certifications in emerging technologies such as cloud computing and machine learning.

Sudhir Singh, CEO & Executive Director of Coforge, stated that the goal is to empower students from diverse disciplines to apply AI to solve real-world challenges. Prof. Amit Patra, Director, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, highlighted AI as the driving force of the future and emphasized the importance of rapidly advancing AI education.

Beth Boucher, Non-Executive Director and Independent Director, and Chairperson of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, Coforge, believes AI will elevate human potential with the right learning frameworks.
