Coal India Limited (CIL) announces the appointment of Shri B. Sairam as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) with effect from December 15, 2025. He succeeds Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha. Shri Sairam will hold the position until March 31, 2028, or until further notice, whichever is earlier. He is not related to any other director of the company.

The appointment of Shri B. Sairam is based on a Ministry of Coal letter dated December 15, 2025. He will remain in the position until his superannuation on March 31, 2028, or until further orders are issued, whichever occurs first.
Shri B. Sairam’s Background
Prior to this appointment, Shri B. Sairam served as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL). He brings over 3 decades of experience in the coal sector, with expertise in mine operations, project planning, logistics, and regulatory affairs. He is a graduate mining engineer from NIT Raipur and holds an MBA in Energy Management from NTPC School of Business Delhi. His previous role included serving as Director (Technical) at Central Coalfields Limited.
Experience Highlights
Shri Sairam has experience with coal logistics, First Mile Connectivity projects, and greenfield and brownfield mine project development. He has also contributed to community development initiatives and was involved in the projectisation, structuring of project financing, and development of a compensation and R&R framework for shifting urban townships at NCL. He also expedited regulatory clearances for mining projects to ensure uninterrupted production.
