Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced the appointment of Shri Asit Gopal, Special Secretary & Financial Advisor, as a Part-Time Official (Government Nominee) Director on its Board, effective February 3, 2026. This decision follows communication from the Ministry of Heavy Industries. Shri Gopal has also confirmed that he is not debarred from holding the office of Director by any authority.

Shri Asit Gopal has been appointed as a Part-Time Official Director on the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). The appointment took effect on February 3, 2026.
Director’s Background
Shri Asit Gopal brings over three decades of experience in public administration, finance, tribal affairs, and more. He is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and also holds postgraduate qualifications in Wildlife Management, Public Policy & Management, and an MBA.
Extensive Experience
He has served in the Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh and held key leadership roles, including Additional Secretary (Finance) and Director in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. He also served as Commissioner of the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS).
Current Role
Currently, Shri Asit Gopal serves as Special Secretary & Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Textiles with additional charges in multiple other ministries including Food Processing Industries, Development of North Eastern Region, Commerce & Industry, Heavy Industry, and MSME.
