Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is establishing two significant new manufacturing facilities in Ibrahimpatnam, Telangana, and Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, ahead of FY 2026-27. These facilities are crucial for meeting the rising requirements of the Indian armed forces and expanding BDL’s production capacity. The Jhansi unit will focus on propellants and bulk rocket manufacturing, while the Telangana unit will house advanced testing capabilities, including rocket motor testing. The company anticipates additional orders worth Rs.15,000 Crore in FY 2026-27.
Expansion of Manufacturing Footprint
In response to the current operational scenario and the evolving requirements of the Indian armed forces, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is moving forward with the establishment of two additional manufacturing facilities. These strategic sites are located in Ibrahimpatnam, Telangana, and Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The inauguration of these facilities is scheduled to occur shortly, with production commencement targeted for financial year 2026-27.
This capacity expansion is designed not only to fulfill envisaged requirements but also to enhance operational efficiency and diversify the company’s overall product profile.
Facility Details and Capabilities
Ibrahimpatnam, Telangana Unit
The Telangana facility is set to incorporate eight assembly lines, specifically intended to support the requirements of new weapon systems and anticipated future needs. Furthermore, this unit will feature unique and critical testing infrastructure, including a rocket motor testing facility and a warhead penetration testing facility.
Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh Unit
The second facility, located in the Jhansi UP defence corridor, is dedicated to addressing the growing need for propellants. This unit will also be utilized for the bulk manufacturing of grad rockets and will house in-house R&D development of new energetics.
Future Order Book Outlook
These major capacity additions align directly with the company’s current robust order book, which stands at approximately Rs.26,000 crore. Looking forward, BDL anticipates securing additional orders totaling around Rs.15,000 Crore during the financial year 2026-27, underscoring a significant period of growth for the organization.
