Adani Green Energy Deepening Nature-Positive Leadership with Biodiversity Disclosure

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) is integrating the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework into its core sustainability strategy, reinforcing its dedication to nature-positive renewable energy development. AGEL commits to No Net Loss of Biodiversity by 2030 and will plant 27.86 million trees. These efforts are designed to ensure ecological wellbeing advances alongside clean energy expansion.

Integrating Nature into Strategy

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) is mainstreaming the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework. This structured approach helps AGEL identify, assess, manage, and disclose dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities related to nature and biodiversity across its operations. This initiative strengthens AGEL’s move towards an integrated, nature-positive model of renewable energy growth.

Commitment to Biodiversity

AGEL has committed to achieving No Net Loss of Biodiversity by 2030. Supporting this pledge, the company plans to plant 27.86 million trees across its project locations. These actions build upon AGEL’s strong ESG credentials, including certified water-positive operations, single-use-plastic-free status, and zero waste-to-landfill sites.

Nature-Related Assessments

Beginning in FY24, AGEL initiated company-wide assessments to map nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities at every operational site. This groundwork reflects AGEL’s intent to embed nature-related insights into strategic planning. The company aims to build resilient ecosystems alongside renewable energy infrastructure, ensuring renewable expansion contributes to protecting and restoring natural capital.

Leadership in Sustainability

By aligning with the TNFD framework, AGEL strengthens its leadership among global renewable companies integrating biodiversity considerations into strategic decision-making. AGEL is also a signatory to the India Business Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI and IBBI 2.0), reinforcing its long-term biodiversity goal. Currently, AGEL has an operating renewable portfolio of over 16.5 GW, the largest in India.

Vision for the Future

AGEL has set a target of achieving 50 GW by 2030. The company is developing the world’s largest renewable energy plant (30 GW) on barren land at Khavda, Gujarat, covering 538 square kilometers. AGEL’s operating portfolio is certified ‘water positive’, ‘single-use plastic free’ and ‘zero waste-to-landfill’.
