Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will begin commercial operations on December 25, 2025. The airport will initially handle 23 daily departures, scaling up to 34 in February 2026. First flights will be operated by IndiGo, followed by Air India Express and Akasa Air. The launch will add needed capacity to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. During the initial phase, the airport will operate for 12 hours daily.
Navi Mumbai Airport Launch Date
Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to begin commercial operations on December 25, 2025. An inauguration ceremony occurred on October 8, 2025. A phased operational rollout is planned, prioritizing passenger experience and safety.
Initial Operations
In its first month, NMIA will operate for 12 hours daily, between 08:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs, with 23 scheduled daily departures. The airport will manage up to 10 flight movements per hour during this period.
Inaugural Flights
The first arriving flight will be IndiGo 6E460 from Bengaluru, scheduled to land at 8:00 AM. The first departing flight will be IndiGo 6E882 to Hyderabad at 8:40 AM. Services will be operated by IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air, connecting Mumbai to 16 domestic destinations.
Expanded Operations
Starting in February 2026, the airport will operate round-the-clock, increasing to 34 daily departures.
Operational Readiness
NMIA is conducting Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trials. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was inducted at NMIA on October 29, 2025.
Airport Capacity
Upon completion, NMIA is designed to handle 90 million passengers per annum (MPPA). In its initial phase, NMIA will manage 20 MPPA and 0.5 million metric tonnes of cargo annually.
