Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has reached a milestone by installing 1 crore smart meters across discoms, becoming the first in India to achieve this. With a target of installing approximately 2.5 crore smart meters across five states, AESL’s current installation rate is around 25,000 per day. This initiative supports India’s digital transformation and smart metering rollout.

Smart Meter Milestone

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has successfully delivered and installed 1 crore electricity smart meters across discoms. The company expects to deliver the next 1 crore within the coming financial year. AESL’s current installation pace stands at approximately 25,000 smart meters per day.

Driving Digital Transformation

This milestone emphasizes AESL’s commitment to promoting digital transformation in retail electricity distribution, offering data for consumption and grid modernization. This aligns with the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). AESL’s smart meter network is designed to provide consumer insights, improved billing transparency, and strengthened utility operations.

Leadership Perspective

According to Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Energy Solutions, reaching 1 crore installed smart meters indicates benchmarked execution and engagement with distribution utilities and consumers. He stated that these smart meters empower consumers with real-time usage data, enhance grid reliability, reduce losses, and enable energy management.

Integrated Ecosystem Approach

AESL achieves high daily installation rates by adopting an integrated ecosystem approach, which includes partnerships with firms like Adani Esyasoft Smart Solutions and AdaniConneX, along with alliances with tier I meter brands. Through its CSR arm, AESL trains technicians for meter installations.

Quick Installation Pace

AESL began its smart metering journey in 2024 and achieved this milestone in about 24 months. India plans to replace 25 crore conventional meters with smart meters under RDSS, enhancing billing accuracy, improving demand forecasting, reducing losses, integrating renewable energy, and enabling grid design and operations.
