GNFC: Revised Energy Norms Boost Profitability by ₹61 Crore

Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) announced revised energy norms for its Bharuch Unit’s Neem Coated Urea production. The new norms, effective April 1, 2025, increase the energy consumption benchmark to 6.370 Gcal PMT from the previous 6.200 Gcal PMT. This adjustment is anticipated to result in a preliminary positive financial impact of approximately ₹61 crore for FY 2025-26 and Q1 FY 2026-27.

Revised Energy Norms for Urea Production

Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) has received a notification from the Department of Fertilizers (DoF), Government of India, regarding revised energy norms applicable under the Urea Pricing Policy. The notification, dated July 30, 2026, establishes new benchmarks for energy consumption at GNFC’s Bharuch Unit.

Impact on Profitability

The New Energy Norm for the Bharuch Unit’s Neem Coated Urea production has been fixed at 6.370 Gcal per Metric Tonne (PMT). This revised norm, effective from April 1, 2025, replaces the existing norm of 6.200 Gcal PMT. The new energy norm is set to remain applicable from April 01, 2025, to March 31, 2028. Based on these changes, GNFC has made a preliminary assessment estimating a positive financial impact of approximately ₹61 crores. This comprises an estimated ₹47 crores for FY 2025-26 and ₹14 crores for Q1 of FY 2026-27. The company noted that this impact is subject to detailed evaluation and final accounting treatment.
