HPCL Achieves Significant Energy Savings and Emission Reductions
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has reported substantial achievements in energy conservation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction for the financial year 2025-26. The company’s refineries recorded energy savings of 86,542 SRFT, contributing to an estimated annual monetary saving of ₹350.1 crore. Furthermore, HPCL successfully reduced its GHG emissions by 0.28 million tonnes of CO₂e during the same period.
Refinery Initiatives Driving Sustainability
These positive outcomes are attributed to a series of energy conservation initiatives undertaken at HPCL’s refineries. Key efforts contributing to these savings and reductions include the revival of the AFC 05/06 pitch control for better product rundown temperature optimization in LOUP, stopping DHT fractionator stripping steam, and resolving TST issues in PDS Furnaces. Additional measures involved enhancing furnace efficiency through cleaning and optimization, reducing LP steam header pressure, and implementing power-saving initiatives across various operations. The company also focused on improving steam trap management systems and reducing flare losses.
Renewable Energy and Digitalization Efforts
HPCL also made progress in renewable energy generation, with solar panel installations contributing to reduced electricity consumption. The company continued its efforts to maximize hot feed efficiency in NHT units and optimize energy usage by reducing the H₂/HC ratio in CCR. Furthermore, HPCL digitalised its Steam Trap Management System (STMS) to enhance monitoring accuracy and efficiency. These initiatives collectively demonstrate HPCL’s dedication to improving energy efficiency, reducing its environmental footprint, and promoting sustainable business growth.
