Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced that its L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions division has secured a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from NTPC Ltd for a 2×800 MW thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh. This mega order, valued in the ‘Mega’ classification (₹10,000 to ₹15,000 crore), encompasses the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the entire main plant package using ultra-supercritical technology. The project will add 1,600 MW of baseload generation capacity to India’s grid.
L&T Secures Significant NTPC Order
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced a major development through its L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions business vertical. The company has received a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from NTPC Ltd for the main plant package of a new thermal power project. This project involves the development of the 2×800 MW Lara Stage-III thermal power plant located in Chhattisgarh.
Project Scope and Technology
Under this agreement, L&T’s scope of work is comprehensive and includes the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of critical plant components. These include Boilers, Steam Turbines, Generators, Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs), and Air Cooled Condensers (ACC), along with associated mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation, and civil works. The project will utilize ultra-supercritical technology, which is known for offering higher efficiency and lower specific emissions.
Once commissioned, this plant is expected to contribute 1,600 MW of reliable baseload generation capacity to India’s national grid, addressing the country’s growing electricity demands.
Order Classification and Value
The announcement falls under the ‘Mega’ order classification for Larsen & Toubro, indicating a value between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore. This significant order underscores NTPC’s continued trust in L&T’s engineering, manufacturing, and project execution capabilities.
