SJVN Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Shri Rajesh Kumar Chandel as Director (Projects) on its Board. This appointment is effective from June 11, 2026. Shri Chandel’s extensive experience is expected to provide valuable leadership to SJVN’s ongoing and future projects.
A Seasoned Professional in Hydroelectric Development
Shri Chandel is a distinguished Civil Engineer with a career spanning over 32 years in the power sector. His expertise is particularly focused on the development and execution of hydroelectric projects. He joined SJVN in May 1994 and has since been instrumental in various critical capacities.
Key Contributions and Project Involvement
Throughout his career, Shri Chandel has been actively involved in the planning, construction, project management, and execution of numerous hydroelectric projects across India, Nepal, and Bhutan. He played a significant role in the construction of the Head Race Tunnel for the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station. His tenure at SJVN’s Corporate Headquarters has seen him hold various key positions, including roles in Corporate Monitoring & Coordination and as Engineering Officer to the Director (Civil).
Shri Chandel has also been a pivotal figure in the development of SJVN’s international hydropower ventures. He was closely associated with securing statutory clearances and advancing project development activities for the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project in Nepal and the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan. Furthermore, he served as Head of Project for the Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project (HEP), guiding it from conceptualization through to the construction phase.
His leadership experience extends to serving as the Managing Director of the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project Authority (PHPA-II) in Bhutan, where he was responsible for project commissioning and managing critical technical, contractual, and coordination matters. He also held the position of Member Secretary of the Authority.
Previous Roles and Expertise
Prior to his current appointment, Shri Chandel served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN Limited. He previously acted as the Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company (SAPDC) and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company (SLPDC) in Nepal, overseeing the implementation and development of SJVN’s hydropower projects in the region.
With his profound experience in project planning, construction management, and the execution of large-scale hydroelectric projects, Shri Chandel is poised to bring substantial technical, managerial, and leadership acumen to the SJVN Limited Board.
