Hexaware Technologies Limited has announced a significant development in its ongoing litigation with Natsoft Corporation and Updraft LLC. The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has dismissed all claims, including federal patent-infringement claims. The court found Natsoft’s asserted patents abstract and ineligible for protection. State-law claims were also dismissed. Plaintiffs have an opportunity to file an amended complaint.
Court Dismisses Key Patent Claims
Hexaware Technologies Limited today announced a significant victory in its legal battle with Natsoft Corporation and Updraft LLC. The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has dismissed all claims filed against Hexaware Technologies Limited and its subsidiary, Hexaware Technologies Inc. This dismissal specifically includes Natsoft’s patent infringement claims, which covered nine patents across two patent families.
Reasons for Dismissal
The Court’s decision was based on a deficiency in Natsoft’s patents. It was determined that the asserted patents claimed broad, abstract ideas rather than specific, concrete inventions, rendering them ineligible for patent protection under U.S. law. This finding pertains to the breadth and validity of Natsoft’s patents, not the originality of Hexaware’s platforms. Consequently, the court declined to exercise jurisdiction over the related state-law claims, which were also dismissed without substantive adjudication.
Opportunity for Amended Complaint
The plaintiffs have been granted an opportunity to file an amended complaint, including a new federal claim, within a prescribed timeline. If no amended complaint is filed, the court is expected to enter a final judgment. Hexaware emphasized that its platforms, including Amaze®, Tensai®, and RapidX®, are products of original engineering and substantial investment, and it maintains they do not infringe any third-party intellectual property.
Company’s Stance and Future Outlook
Srikrishna Ramakarthikeyan, Executive Director & CEO of Hexaware, stated, “We have been clear about our confidence since the day this suit was filed, and the Court’s decision reflects why we held it.” He added that Hexaware’s platforms are built on specific, concrete engineering and that the company holds patents for its own innovations. The litigation has caused no material change to the Company’s operations, ability to serve customer commitments, partner programs, or financial position.
