NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited, is set to develop a 250 MW Solar Power Project integrated with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project will be located on vacant defence land in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. This significant development, approved by the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, marks the first large-scale solar project with BESS aimed at enhancing energy security for defence establishments. The generated power will serve various defence facilities across Uttar Pradesh.

NTPC Renewable Energy to Develop Key Solar Project

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited, has announced plans to develop a substantial 250 MW Solar Power Project. This project will feature an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and will be situated on vacant defence land located in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. The announcement, dated June 9, 2026, highlights a significant step towards renewable energy integration and energy security.

Strategic Importance and Approval

This pioneering project has received approval from the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh. It is noted as the first of its kind in terms of scale, combining a large-scale solar power project with BESS technology specifically to bolster the energy security of critical defence establishments. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging renewable energy for strategic purposes.

Power Utilization and Impact

The electricity generated from this new solar power project will be directly utilized by various defence establishments spread across the state of Uttar Pradesh.
