Strategic Alliance for Clean Energy
Oil India (OIL) and Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering collaboration in the LNG sector. Signed on October 6, 2025, the agreement sets the stage for joint exploration of opportunities across the LNG value chain. Both companies will focus on potential projects related to clean energy.
Focus on LNG and Clean Energy
The MoU will see OIL and MGL working together to explore the technical and commercial viability of LNG, especially in the heavy-duty transport sector. OIL, with its expansive hydrocarbon exploration and development program, is looking to significantly increase its gas production. MGL has already successfully ventured into the LNG value chain and operates LNG retail stations. Together, they will assess opportunities to commercialize cleaner energy projects at scale.
Statements from Leadership
Director (Operations) at OIL emphasized the focus on assessing the viability of LNG in heavy-duty transport and exploring clean energy projects. The Managing Director at MGL noted that the collaboration would help accelerate the adoption of cleaner fuels in the long-haul transport sector.
