Persistent Systems has announced a strategic research collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad) to introduce the “AI Value Compass.” This decision framework is designed to help enterprises navigate the complexities of AI adoption by shifting focus from experimental pilots to disciplined, measurable business outcomes. The initiative evaluates AI investments across five critical vectors: business alignment, people readiness, operational integration, data preparedness, and risk and governance.
Bridging the Gap in Enterprise AI
As organizations accelerate their adoption of Generative AI and Agentic AI, many struggle to translate early-stage pilots into sustained value. The joint study between Persistent and IIM Ahmedabad identifies that the primary barriers to AI success are organizational and operational rather than technological. The “AI Value Compass” aims to address this by providing a structured methodology that moves businesses beyond fragmented experimentation toward disciplined, outcome-led execution.
A Multi-Dimensional Strategic Framework
The framework evaluates AI initiatives through an enterprise operating model lens, moving away from traditional, technology-centric approaches. It assesses projects across five critical pillars:
- Business Alignment: Ensuring AI goals meet strategic objectives.
- People Readiness: Aligning teams and ways of working.
- Operational Integration: Embedding AI into core processes.
- Data Preparedness: Strengthening foundations for AI.
- Risk and Governance: Establishing robust oversight.
Driving Measurable Outcomes
By leveraging this framework, enterprises can identify readiness gaps early in the AI lifecycle and prioritize high-impact initiatives based on objective criteria. According to Jaideep Vijay Dhok, Chief Operating Officer – Technology at Persistent, the framework provides the necessary clarity for leaders to execute AI strategies at scale. Complementing this, Professor Ankur Sinha of IIM Ahmedabad noted that the study highlights fundamental gaps in many current AI strategies, such as the absence of clear leadership and poorly defined success metrics, which the framework is specifically designed to remediate.
Future of the Collaboration
Beyond the initial research, Persistent is actively integrating the “AI Value Compass” into its client engagements. This long-standing partnership between Persistent and IIM Ahmedabad is expected to expand further, with future efforts focusing on knowledge exchange, talent development, and applied research to shape the next generation of AI-ready enterprises.
