Tata Power Strategic MoU Signed to Build Clean Energy Talent in Bhutan

On May 18, 2026, Tata Power and Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) signed a landmark MoU in Thimphu, Bhutan. The partnership aims to establish a comprehensive skill development ecosystem to support Bhutan’s ambitious 5,000 MW clean energy capacity goals. Through the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), the companies will train a future-ready workforce, focusing on safety, technical construction skills, and long-term operations and maintenance for large-scale energy assets.

Building a Future-Ready Energy Workforce

The collaboration between Tata Power and Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) is designed to address the critical human resource requirements of Bhutan’s growing renewable energy sector. By leveraging TPSDI’s specialized expertise, the initiative provides a structured training framework that ensures the workforce is equipped to handle complex clean energy projects from inception to long-term operational phases.

Three-Phase Training Approach

The skill development program will be executed in three strategic phases to ensure comprehensive coverage:

  • Phase 1: Immediate deployment of safety training and mandatory inductions for all project workers prior to site entry.
  • Phase 2: Technical skill development focusing on construction, material handling, and the operation of earth-moving equipment.
  • Phase 3: Development of highly specialized capabilities essential for the long-term maintenance of clean energy assets.

Strategic Partnership Goals

As Bhutan expands its power generation footprint, this partnership serves as a vital enabler for the 5,000 MW clean energy development roadmap. Tata Power will contribute its technical expertise, courseware, and training infrastructure, while DGPC will spearhead trainee mobilization and coordination with local Bhutanese authorities. This initiative highlights a shared vision to foster local capability and ensure the successful deployment of clean energy technology in the region.
