Bharti Airtel Penalty Imposed by Department of Telecommunications for Verification Norms

Bharti Airtel has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications, Uttar Pradesh (East), imposing a penalty of ₹1,06,000. The fine follows a March 2026 audit of Customer Application Forms, which allegedly identified violations of subscriber verification norms. The company has reviewed the findings and decided to settle the matter by paying the levied penalty rather than contesting the authority’s decision.

Notice of Penalty

On May 14, 2026, Bharti Airtel received official communication regarding a compliance audit conducted for the month of March 2026. The regulatory authority identified discrepancies in the subscriber verification processes managed by the company. As a result, a penalty of ₹1,06,000 has been imposed for the alleged contravention of established verification standards.

Compliance and Resolution

The company maintains that it is committed to adhering to all license agreements and mandatory customer verification procedures. Following a review of the notice, Bharti Airtel has opted to comply with the order. The firm will pay the ₹1,06,000 penalty in full. This resolution ensures that the matter is settled without further legal or administrative contest, and the company confirmed that the financial impact is strictly limited to the amount of the fine levied.
