Bharat Forge subsidiary, Agneyastra Energetics, has officially commenced construction on a 1,000-acre integrated defence manufacturing facility in Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. The project involves a planned investment of ₹1,500 crore over the next 2–4 years. This strategic initiative aims to boost India’s indigenous manufacturing of ammunition, propellants, and high-energy materials, while creating approximately 3,300 direct and indirect jobs, supporting the country’s long-term defence self-reliance and the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
Advancing India’s Defence Capabilities
On May 15, 2026, Agneyastra Energetics Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), broke ground on a new state-of-the-art defence manufacturing campus near Madakasira, Andhra Pradesh. This facility represents a major leap in India’s efforts to reduce reliance on imported energetics and ammunition systems.
Investment and Economic Impact
The ambitious project spans over 1,000 acres and is backed by a committed investment of ₹1,500 crore to be deployed over the next 2 to 4 years. Beyond technological advancements, the facility is set to become a significant regional economic catalyst, projected to generate 800 direct jobs and 2,500 indirect employment opportunities, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a vital hub for aerospace and defence manufacturing.
Strategic Significance
Mr. Baba Kalyani, Chairman & Managing Director of Bharat Forge Limited, emphasized the facility’s importance in building a robust indigenous energetics ecosystem. By utilizing the Kalyani Group’s six decades of expertise in metallurgy and systems integration, the plant is designed to deliver globally competitive, safe, and high-performance solutions for domestic and international markets. This development aligns directly with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and reinforces the nation’s long-term goal of total technological self-reliance.
