Shipping Corporation of India Appointment of New Director for Bulk Carriers & Tankers

The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has appointed Capt. Chandran Durai Daniel as the new Director (Bulk Carriers & Tankers). He assumed his position on May 5, 2026. Capt. Daniel, an alumnus of NIT Trichy, brings over 36 years of maritime experience to the role, having served the company in various leadership capacities both at sea and ashore since joining as a Trainee Nautical Officer in 1989.

Leadership Transition

Effective May 5, 2026, at 12:30 hours, Capt. Chandran Durai Daniel has officially taken charge as the Director (Bulk Carriers & Tankers) at The Shipping Corporation of India. This appointment follows the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. With this transition, Rear Admiral Jaswinder Singh, who previously held the additional charge for this division, has officially stepped down from that responsibility.

Professional Background

Capt. Daniel is a Mechanical Engineer and a graduate of NIT Trichy. His career with SCI began in 1989. Throughout his 36-year tenure, he has demonstrated significant professional versatility, serving on various types of vessels before transitioning to shore-based management roles in 2004. His experience encompasses overseeing diverse functional domains and managing company branch offices, including international operations in the UK.

Ongoing Industry Contributions

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Capt. Daniel remains an active contributor to the maritime industry. He currently serves as a Member of the Governing Council of the Narottam Morarjee Institute of Shipping. In this capacity, he supports the development of training and advanced diploma programs in shipping and logistics, further reflecting his commitment to the sector’s growth and education.
