The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited has announced that the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka dismissed the Company’s Writ Petition challenging a ₹131.25 crore demand for compensatory afforestation. The court ruling pertains to a notice issued by the Deputy Conservator of Forests on 20 June 2025. Despite the legal outcome, the Company confirmed that it holds valid Mining Leases and Forest Clearances and will continue operations while pursuing further steps to resolve the ongoing charge demand.

Court Ruling on Afforestation Charges

On 30 April 2026, the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka delivered a judgment dismissing the Writ Petition filed by The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited. The petition sought to set aside a communication from the Deputy Conservator of Forests, State of Karnataka, which demanded payment of ₹131.25 crore for compensatory afforestation, in addition to the provision of land for the same purpose.

Operational Status and Next Steps

Despite the court’s decision, The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited maintains that its Mining Leases and Forest Clearances remain valid. Consequently, the Company has confirmed that it will continue its industrial operations without interruption. Management is currently evaluating the court order and intends to take necessary steps to address and resolve the issues related to the compensatory afforestation demand and land allocation.
