Time Technoplast First Indian Company to Receive Approval for 250-Litre Type IV Hydrogen Cylinders

Time Technoplast has become the first company in India to receive approval from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) for 250-litre Type IV composite hydrogen cylinders. Designed for public transport buses and heavy-duty trucks, these cylinders represent a major advancement in sustainable mobility. The company, which reported ₹555 crores in revenue for its composite segment in 9MFY26, will now move to the prototype validation phase expected to conclude within 90 days.

Advancing Hydrogen Storage Technology

Time Technoplast has achieved a significant milestone in India’s green energy sector. The company has officially secured authorization to manufacture 250-litre high-pressure Type IV composite hydrogen cylinders. These units are specifically engineered for onboard applications in public transportation buses and heavy goods carriers, including trucks and trailers. This approval establishes the company as a pioneer in the domestic production of high-performance hydrogen storage solutions.

Strategic Benefits and Market Positioning

By operating at pressures of 350–700 bar, these advanced composite cylinders offer superior energy density and improved operational efficiency compared to conventional 200–250 bar CNG systems. This technology shift is essential for extending the driving range of next-generation commercial vehicles. Furthermore, replacing heavy metal cylinders with lightweight composite alternatives provides critical weight reduction and cost efficiencies for fleet operators.

Operational Momentum

The company maintains a robust and diversified portfolio, which currently includes approvals for 150-litre Type IV hydrogen cylinders and specialized Type III cylinders for the drone sector. Financial performance in the composite segment remains strong, with revenues reaching ₹555 crores during the first nine months of the 2026 fiscal year. To support this growth, a state-of-the-art, fully automated manufacturing facility has been commissioned in Morai, Gujarat, dedicated to the production of CNG and hydrogen cylinders, along with integrated cascade systems.

Upcoming Development Phase

Following the recent approval, Time Technoplast is initiating the manufacturing of initial prototype cylinders. These units will undergo joint inspection and testing procedures. The company expects the full validation phase to be completed within the next 90 days, further accelerating its role in India’s transition to green hydrogen mobility.
